Thomas Czerniawski has over 10 years experience in computer vision, artificial intelligence, and digital modelling of the built environment. He has created systems for industrial fabrication quality control, building information model creation and updating, and construction progress monitoring. He has received awards from the European Group for Intelligent Computing in Engineering, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and the Reality Capture Network for his contributions to research and community building. He has a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, where his research program focused on creating digital models of existing facilities using deep learning.
He currently works as an applied machine learning scientist at Integrated Projects Technology Inc., where he is automating the scan-to-BIM process. He was an assistant professor at Arizona State University from 2020 to 2023 and continues to advise a team of researchers and students creating immersive digital learning experiences for the builders and stewards of infrastructure. Thomas is a part of the Reality Capture Network Committees Advisory Board, where he is helping to develop the future of community and learning in the reality capture industry. Thomas speaks at conferences and professional meetings about emerging technologies and their opportunities and challenges.
