Industrial Appointments

Since August 2023
Sr. ML Scientist, Integrated Projects

Integrated Projects Technology is at the forefront of built environment digitization. We specialize in Scan to BIM services, converting LiDAR laser scans of existing buildings into digital building information models (BIMs). We’re applying machine learning and advanced computer vision techniques to automate this process, significantly reducing costs and turnaround times.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As an Applied Machine Learning Scientist and Team Lead, I am responsible for driving the automation of our Scan to BIM process. My role encompasses a wide range of activities, including:
Leadership and Management: Leading a growing machine learning team. I oversee planning and execution of all machine learning-related tasks.
Machine Learning Strategy: Developing and implementing a comprehensive machine learning roadmap to enhance our Scan to BIM capabilities. Our strategy includes 2D projection techniques, 3D segmentation, and advanced language-based scene reconstruction.
Algorithm Development: Creating and optimizing neural networks to detect and classify building elements.
Software Integration: Ensuring seamless integration of our machine learning outputs with commercial BIM software like Autodesk Revit. This includes translating neural network outputs into the parameters required to generate accurate BIM elements.
Project Management: Overseeing incremental development and deployment of our Scan to BIM automation releases, ensuring continuous feedback and iterative improvements.
Risk Mitigation: Identifying and addressing key risks such as data quality, interoperability challenges, and the maturity of emerging technologies to ensure project success.

Project Coordinator, Aecon Group Inc.

Project: Toronto York Spadina Subway Extension, Sheppard West Station and Southern Tunnels

Responsibilities: Performed design clash detection. By superimposing architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical drawings in AutoCAD, I was able to scan for and identify interoperability issues. Clashes were resolved through the “request for information” and “request for quote” process.

Supervised and coordinated construction site activity. Activities included: receiving concrete trucks, supervising concrete testing and ensuring concrete meets specifications, calculating in field balance quantities, supervising deep well dewatering system installation, supervising caisson wall construction and micropile testing, supervising utility relocation, and managing materials inventory.

Calculated material quantities through take-off analysis; including concrete volumes, asphalt volumes and piping (sanitary, water, sewer) lengths. Communicated with suppliers on a daily basis. Placed orders, filled out purchase order paperwork.

Created and updated a spreadsheet for tracking the approval status of rebar shop drawings. Cross referenced spreadsheet with construction schedule so that expedited approvals could be requested when needed. Conducted rebar quality control inspections.

Performed daily environmental inspections. Monitored sediment discharge in sewers and supervised construction site cleanup.

Project Coordinator, McNally International Inc.

Project: Emergency Coxwell Sewer Bypass

Responsibilities: Progress tracking for tunneling operations and exit shaft excavation (150 ft shaft, slurry wall shoring; clam excavation). Daily & weekly reporting. Drafted end of project report.

Developed a surveying schedule for tunnelling soil disturbance monitoring.

Drafted “inspection and test plans” used when receiving concrete tunnel liner segments. Ensuring specifications are met.

Performed daily turbidity tests on water discharged from tunnel.

Helped site engineer animate the final tunnel tie-in operation using Google SketchUp.
